About

The Ōtaki Promotions Group was established in 2012. It was formed as an incorporated society "to promote Ōtaki and its environs as vibrant and attractive to locals, visitors and businesses".

Its first project was a street party in Ōtaki's Main Street in July 2012, followed by a Community Expo in September, and a Christmas market to round out the year. The first Ōtaki Kite Festival was held in February 2013.

The group is best known for organising the kite festival, which has become an internationally recognised event that attracts thousands of visitors to Ōtaki Beach every summer.

Other events have included the Christmas Wonderland at Ōtaki College.

The ŌPG also advocates for the Ōtaki community and liaises closely with other community organisations.

The Ōtaki Promotions Group is run by a hard-working group of volunteers supported by part-time project director Kirsty Doyle.
